Apple today announced that its App Store sales topped US$10 billion in 2013. They topped US$1 billion in December alone as customers downloaded almost three billion apps to make it the most successful month in App Store history. Apple topped the 2 billion download mark back in December 2012.

“We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

Apple earlier revealed its ‘Best of 2013‘ with apps such as Duolingo and VSCO Cam and games such as Ridiculous Fishing – A Tale of Redemption and Badland being named.

Apple also announced that it has now paid out over US$15 billion to developers as a result of app sales through the App Store.

The App Store is now available in 155 countries and offers more than one million apps to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users, including more than 500,000 native iPad apps.
