BlackBerry Z3 headed to India next?

BlackBerry Z3When BlackBerry launched its latest BlackBerry 10 smartphone, it did so in a single country. The BlackBerry Z3 made its debut in Indonesia on May 15. But the company has bigger plans for its first smartphone to be built by new partner Foxconn. As the company announced when it first unveiled the BlackBerry Z3 at Mobile World Congress, Indonesia was only the first stop of a wider rollout.

It now appears that BlackBerry is ready to expand availability of the BlackBerry Z3.According to The Times of India, BlackBerry has started sending out press invitations for a launch event set to take place on June 25 in India. The invitations do not name the BlackBerry Z3 by name but promise to feature “next generation BlackBerry 10 devices.” With pricing set to fall below RS12,000 (about CA$215), there is little doubt that it is none other than the BlackBerry Z3.

Affordable devices, most priced below that RS12,000 threshold are propelling smartphone sales in India to new levels. From sales of 6.14 million units in Q1 2013, they jumped to 17.59 million in Q1 2014. Samsung led the charge with a 35% market share. It was followed by Micromax (15%), Karbonn (10%), Lava (6%) and Nokia (4%).

India will not be the last stop for the BlackBerry Z3 either. The company is also planning to bring it to the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam.
