Google Nexus 6 still alive and coming this fall?

Google NexusWhile Google may unveil one more Nexus tablet before it retires its Nexus program, recent rumours have suggested that there would not be another Nexus smartphone. As is so often the case with rumours, a contradictory rumour has popped up to say that the Nexus 6 is alive and well. Ausdroid has been tipped by a “source within Google who is close to the project” that Google is indeed still looking to launch a new Nexus smartphone later this year.

The report adds that this new Nexus handset would sport a 5.5-inch display, the same size as that of the LG G3 although it’s not clear if it would sport a WQHD resolution. A company executive last week publicly stated that LG would not build the Nexus 6, it’s not clear at this point who might build this device for Google.

Recent rumours have suggested that Google will replace its Nexus program with a new Android Silver one that will focus on offering a range of high-end devices running stock or near stock Android. Among these could be a new LG smartphone.

Should the Google Nexus 6 still launch, it is expected to do so before the end of the year, perhaps alongside the new Google Nexus 9 tablet and likely a new version of Android.

For now, keep a healthy pinch of salt handy.
