“High-end” HTC Nexus tablet coming later this year?

HTC

After failing to make an impression in the tablet space with its HTC Flyer and HTC Jetstream, there have been persistent rumours that the company was planning a comeback in the space. After exiting the U.S. market in 2012 after sales failed to meet expectations, it has several times suggested at a return ever since but its struggles in the smartphone arena have likely pushed that objective down in terms of priority. But as recently as October 2013, Chairwoman Cher Wang has continued to drop hints that it will launch “something nice and disruptive” for that return. A rumour now suggests that HTC will come back as the company behind a “high-end” Nexus tablet.

According to Focus Taiwan which cites China’s The Commercial Times, HTC is working towards a Q3 release for its HTC Nexus tablet. No details are given about this new device. Could HTC displace ASUS as the manufacturer for the Nexus 7 or will it instead launch a larger Nexus 10 model? The latter is more likely but HTC could also opt to go for a larger tablet as seems to be the current trend.

Should this rumour turn out to be accurate, this tablet will be HTC’s second Nexus device. The company was responsible for the Google Nexus One, the first Google Nexus smartphone.
