Microsoft to rename Nokia Oyj business unit as Microsoft Mobile Oy?

MicrosoftThe Microsoft acquisition of Nokia’s Devices & Services business is expected to close later this month after slipping from its original Q1 date. First announced last September, the US$7.2 billion deal will see Microsoft take over Nokia’s smartphone and tablet business. A leaked letter from Nokia to its business suppliers has apparently revealed the name under which the new wholly-owned Microsoft subsidiary. The letter, obtained by NokiaPowerUser, indicates that Microsoft will rename Nokia Oyj to Microsoft Mobile Oy and will act as the company’s mobile devices division.

Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices.

The letter explains to suppliers that current agreements and terms that they have with Nokia will be assumed by Microsoft when the acquisition transaction closes. At the same time, it indicates that Nokia itself would like to continue working with these same suppliers

In addition to becoming a supplier for Microsoft Mobile Oy, we appreciate that you might also remain a supplier to the continuing businesses of Nokia (i.e., NSN, HERE or Advanced Technologies) after the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia Devices and Services. Nokia will communicate separately any changes in invoicing methods and addresses before the close of this transaction.

While the transaction is taking longer than both companies initially expected, it is clear from this letter that both now expect it to finally close in the near future.
