New Nokia Normandy user interface images leaked

There have been quite a few images leaked already of the Nokia Normandy hardware (including engineering prototypes) and now details are starting to emerge about its user interface. We’ve caught glimpses before but @evleaks today gives us a much better look at the Nokia Normandy user interface. There is also a hint that there are “two ways to interact with Normandy” but that’s not immediately clear from the images.

Rumoured Nokia Normandy UI

Built on a forked version of Google Android, the interface is clearly heavily influenced by Windows Phone, something that was not as obvious in earlier images. Unlike the traditional app icon layout, the Normandy opts for the Windows Phone tile layout. Not all appear to have been converted but that could change by the time the Normandy launches (assuming that it does).

It’s not clear though if these will function as Windows Phone’s live tiles which can deliver real-time updates.

Android’s notification bar also appears to have been enhanced to include recently used apps. Given that the Normandy only appears to have one button, this blended approach may also serve as a task manager to see what apps are currently running.

As for pictures of the hardware, @evleaks also recently gave us this image:

Rumoured Nokia Normandy

With Microsoft set to acquire Nokia’s devices business later this year for US$7.2 billion, it remains to be seen if the Nokia Normandy will ever launch. If it does, it will likely complement Nokia’s entry-level Asha line in emerging markets.
