Samsung Galaxy S5 specifications with WQHD display leaked again?

Samsung Galaxy S5 concept

Samsung yesterday announced that it would hold its next Unpacked event at MWC 2014 on February 24. While the company did not reveal what it planned to announce, the fact that it called the event Unpacked5 was widely seen as a strong hint that the event would revolve around the Samsung Galaxy S5. The New York Times today reported that its sources have told it that this is indeed the case. It adds that the new flagship will not come with a WQHD display but will sport a better processor and improved cameras.

This has not prevented Eldar Murtazin from tweeting what he expects the Galaxy S5 specifications to be and he does anticipate a WQHD display:

  • Processor: Samsung Exynos 6 / Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 (depending on market)
  • Display: 5.24-inch WQHD (2560×1440) AMOLED
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Internal storage: 32GB/64GB
  • Rear-facing camera: 16MP
  • Front-facing camera: 3.2MP
  • Battery: 3,200mAh

These specifications line up nicely with those proposed by South Korean brokerage firm KDB Daewoo Securities just days ago.

The EyeOnMobility crystal ball tells us that Samsung will offer both a standard and premium version of its next flagship smartphone. What is still not clear is whether Samsung will unveil both as Galaxy S5 models and whether both will be unveiled at its upcoming Unpacked event or only the standard model (likely the SM-G900 family) which will come with a Full HD (1080×1920) display.

Confirming earlier rumours, The New York Times adds that Samsung will also use its Unpacked event to unveil a successor to the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
