Samsung holding health-focused event on May 28

May 28 2014 Samsung event

With devices like the new Galaxy S5 smartphone and Gear Fit fitness band, Samsung has been gradually moving into the health and fitness space. Both devices, as well as the new Gear 2 smartwatches, come with heart-rate sensors. It appears that the Korean company is ready to follow these first steps with a greater emphasis on health with the announcement that it will hold an event focused on “a new conversation around health.” Set for May 28 in San Francisco, Samsung reveals little else what will be on the agenda that day.

The invitiation was sent out by Samsung’s semiconductor group, suggesting that it may have more to do with new sensors and health-focused components than new devices or software. Then again, with the event taking place just days before Apple’s WWDC, the event could be designed to steal away some thunder from Apple’s expected announcements around its own health initiatives. Apple is expected to launch not only its first smartwatch but a new Healthbook app with health and fitness-tracking features.

There is no word yet on whether Samsung will livestream the event but we’ll bring you additional information as it comes up.
