Samsung to unveil Galaxy S5 on February 23?

Samsung Galaxy S5 conceptSamsung executive Lee Young Hee recently alluded to a March or April announcement for its Galaxy S5 flagship, dashing the hopes of many for an earlier announcement. Rumours followed up claiming that a dedicated global launch event would take place in mid-March. Now comes word via Twitter from Mobile-review’s Eldar Murtazin that the announcement will in fact take place on February 23, the day prior to the official start of MWC 2014. Murtazin gets quite specific: The event will take place in Barcelona, Spain, at 1800 local time.

Murtazin adds that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will go on sale for the same price as the Galaxy S4. He did not provide any details about specifications, suggesting only that: “Specs – u know them :).” He also alluded to a new version of TouchWiz, something that was already suggested by recently leaked images.

Murtazin also claims that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will then launch by the end of April. It’s not the first time that he has claimed such a launch date.

Should Samsung unveil the Galaxy S5 at MWC 2014, it will be the first time since the Galaxy S II that it uses this event to unveil a flagship Galaxy S device.
