Concept Sunday: Samsung Galaxy gear edge by Maform

Samsung Galaxy gear edge conceptSamsung earlier this year promised to deliver “a more perfect product” for its next smartwatch. The latest rumours now suggest that Samsung will unveil this new wearable at an event during IFA 2015 in early September. If the rumours hold true, it will be a round smartwatch with a rotating bezel ring. What if Samsung instead applied some of the design elements from its new Galaxy S6 edge smartphone (and earlier Galaxy Note edge phablet) to its latest smartwatch? That’s the idea behind Hungary’s Maform Samsung Galaxy gear edge concept.

Two design considerations drove the development of the Galaxy gear edge. As with other Samsung edge devices, its display wraps to the sides. These narrow side displays can be used to quickly display notifications for incoming email or upcoming calendar events. They would also presumably offer additional functionality such as the ability to tap an icon to take a call or another to dismiss it.

The Galaxy gear edge smartwatch also comes with a clip system that makes it easy to change wrist bands but also simply attach the watch itself to your suit lapel or even your car’s seat belt when you’re driving. The clip also promises to charge the smartwatch “in a more convenient way” but does not reveal specifically how it would do so.

Little more is revealed about the Samsung Galaxy gear edge. There is no word on specifications but it would presumably be powered by Samsung’s own Tizen operating system.

Do you think that a curved display similar to the one found on the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge belongs on a smartwatch? Let us know below.
