NVIDIA SHIELD to begin shipping July 31st

NVIDIA SHIELDThere is good news today for those eagerly hoping to get their hands on the Android-powered NVIDIA SHIELD. A “mechanical issue” that delayed the launch has been resolved and the company today let customers who had pre-ordered the portable gaming platform know that shipments will begin on July 31st.

We want to thank you for your patience and for sticking with us through the shipment delay of your SHIELD. We have great news to share with you – your SHIELD will ship on July 31st.

Our goal has always been to ship the perfect product, so we made sure we submitted SHIELD to the most rigorous mechanical testing and quality assurance standards in the industry. We built SHIELD because we love playing games, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Originally set to go on sale on June 27th, the company that day announced the delay due to an unspecified issue with a third-party component. It promised to work the issue “around the clock” with the supplier in order to get shipments started as soon as it could.

The NVIDIA SHIELD is among the first devices to come with the new NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor. It can both play Android games and stream PC games from Steam.

The NVIDIA SHIELD will be available in both Canada and the U.S. for $299.
