Preview of Windows 8.1 tablets lists 10.1-inch Nokia Sirius and others

Rumoured Nokia Sirius tablet

WinSuperSite’s Paul Thurrott this week put together a list of the Windows tablets that should be announced in the coming weeks. It’s an impressive lineup that covers a range of sizes and configurations. Despite the failure of the current generation, there are even a couple of Windows RT 8.1 on ARM tablets, including the 10.1-inch Nokia Sirius tablet.

Details about the Nokia Sirius line up with those of previous rumours. They also add that the rear-facing 6.7MP camera will come with Carl Zeiss optics and promise “unique companion experiences with Nokia apps.” It also promises a “multi-function cover with keyboard and additional battery life” that sounds a lot like Microsoft’s own rumoured Touch Cover. The price is listed at US$499.

Also listed are two Dell entries. The Dell Venue comes with an 8-inch WXGA (1280×800) display, an Intel Atom “Bay Trail” processor, and support for a capacitive stylus. A larger model, still unnamed but codenamed Midland, will come with a 10.8-inch Full HD (1080×1920) display, an Intel Atom “Bay Trail” processor and optional 4G connectivity.

Also listed are Microsoft’s own Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. Thurrott also suggests that Microsoft will release the rumoured Surface Mini but later this year. It will come with Windows RT 8.1, an ARM-based Qualcomm processor and an 8-inch display.

There are also entries from Acer, an updated version of the original Acer W3, ASUS (Transformer Book Trio T100TA), Lenovo (2 models) and Toshiba.

There are no launch dates to go with the list but past rumours have suggested that Nokia will host an event on September 26th. It could unveil both the Sirius tablet and the Lumia 1520 phablet there.

All in all, a much more promising lineup than the first generation of tablets that were offered.
