Sony to launch Xperia Z2 in April 2014?

It would appear that Sony will have to try harder if it wants to cut down on the product leaks. The Sony Xperia Z2 is once again the topic of rumours, this time from two different sources. The two paint a somewhat contradictory picture when it comes to specifications but agree that the new device will launch in the late March or April timeframe in 2014.

As for the specifications, an AndroidSaS source in Japan suggests that the Xperia Z2 will come with a slightly larger 5.2-inch Full HD TRILUMINOS IGZO display offering a pixel density of 506PPI. That last number appears questionable given that the dimensions and resolution of the display work out to about 423PPI based on a PPI formula rather than 506.

As for other specifications, the 20.7MP camera will be paired with a Xenon flash and it will use Android 4.4 KitKat. The RAM could be bumped up to 3GB over the 2GB in the Xperia Z1. The processor will remain unchanged from the Xperia Z1’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 but AndroidSaS has it keeping the same 3,000mAh battery while PhoneArena suggests a slightly larger 3,200mAh battery.

Lastly, PhoneArena suggests that Sony will not make any smartphone announcements at CES. This would suggest that it may save them instead for Mobile World Congress 2014.
