Apple to launch 4.7- and 5.7-inch iPhones in 2014?

Apple iPhone 5.7 conceptLet’s step away from the CES 2014 hype for a moment. Rumours are once again pointing to larger displays for the next-generation iPhone. The latest revelations come from @PunkPanda who previously leaked the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. According to a Weibo post by C Technology which quotes @PunkPanda, Apple could in fact release two differently-sized iPhones later this year. One will reportedly come with a 4.7-inch display and a second with a 5.7-inch one (illustrated by the concept above).

It’s not the first time that such sizes have been mentioned. A number of rumours have suggested that a 4.7- or 4.8-inch iPhone was in the works. Apple is also reportedly evaluating larger sized devices, some with displays as large as 6-inches.

The short note throws in one more detail. The iPhone 6 will come with some sort of “biometric,” suggesting a fingerprint or iris scanner. The former is not unreasonable given that it’s already a feature on the iPhone 5S but the latter might be more of a stretch (although Apple is not the only company rumoured to be playing with iris scanners for smartphones).

With an iPhone 6 announcement likely still months away, if we disregard a rumour that it could be announced in May, we have plenty of time to see if this rumour will stand the test of time. As GforGames points out, the sources for this latest report have certainly been right on many occasions in the past. We’ll see how they fare this time around.
