ASUS teases ASUS ZenWatch in new video

Teaser for ASUS ZenWatchThere is no question that smartwatches are the gadget of the day. Even as LG and Samsung unveiled their latest offerings, the LG G Watch R and Samsung Gear S respectively, ASUS is continuing to tease its own upcoming smartwatch. After a couple of teaser images, it has now released a teaser video, revealing that the device will be called the ASUS ZenWatch.

The video gives us a somewhat better look at the watch but much still remains unknown at this point. As one of the teaser images suggested, the rectangular display appears to be slightly curved.  It will also sport a leather wristband. It’s not clear if the watch case will be stainless steel as the finish we glimpse in the video could just as easily be plastic with a faux-metal finish. It’s also still not clear whether the ASUS ZenWatch will run Android Wear but it is likely given that ASUS is among Google’s hardware partners for the new wearable extension to its mobile operating system.

ASUS will reportedly offer the ZenWatch for as low as between US$99 and US$149, effectively undercutting its competition. There is still no word on when and where it will launch but those details should be revealed next week during ASUS’ IFA 2014 press event.
