Our first look at the HTC One Wear smartwatch?

Rumoured HTC smartwatch

HTC first revealed its intention to jump into the wearables market back in October 2013. Calling it a “critical segment” for the company, HTC was later rumoured to show up to three wearables in private previews at Mobile World Congress. HTC was more recently announced as one of Google’s partners for Android Wear, effectively confirming that such a smartwatch was coming. We may have just gotten our first glimpse now of the HTC One Wear smartwatch courtesy of @evleaks.

The image, a reproduction by Phone Designer (whom we have featured in the past), is described by @evleaks as “100% faithful” shows a metal watch and band. Like the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live, the HTC model features a square face. It appears to sport the same brushed metal finish as its HTC One flagship smartphones. Perhaps it will come in the same colours so that you can match your smartwatch to your smartphone.

One caveat: The watch face itself is a mockup so don’t get too attached to it. The final version will be powered by Android Wear and will sport the now familiar card-based interface as Google will not allow partners to modify the user interface.

No other details about the HTC smartwatch are provided. It is expected to launch in late August if recent rumours turn out to be correct. Those same rumours also suggest a variant clad in polycarbonate rather than metal, presumably to hit a lower price point.
