Google to launch Android One in India on September 15?

Google September 15 2014 event

September is already set to be a busy month and it just got a bit busier. Following the slew of IFA 2014 press announcements coming later this week and Apple’s September 9 event, Google has now sent out press invitations for an event on September 15. Set to take place in India, the invitation reveals little about what Google has planned. One likely scenario is that it will be Android One’s official launch.

Android One was announced alongside Android L at Google I/O 2014 in late June. With three confirmed partners, Karbonn, Micromax and Spice, it will be Google’s attempt to bring Android to lower-price points while offering the same user experience as that of higher-end devices. Additional partners could also be announced at the event.

The first devices are expected to sell for between INR7,000 (about CA$125) and INR15,000 (about CA$275). The reference platform proposes specifications such as Android 4.4 Kitkat, quad-core processors, 1GB of RAM, displays between 4.3- and 4.5-inches and dual-SIM support.

Underlying the importance of Android One to Google, none other than Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President, Android, Chrome and Apps may be attending the event.

More information is promised ahead of the event itself. Keep it locked here to find out more!
