Google to unveil Android 4.5 in July with Google Nexus 8 tablet?

Google earlier this week announced that Google I/O 2014 will take place on June 25 and 26 in San Francisco, California. Tickets have yet to go on sale that the first rumours of what Google could announce or may not announce at the event have begun to swirl. A Google Dublin employee has reportedly told Android Geeks that the upcoming event will be completely focused on new Google services and will not share the limelight with a new version of Android and new devices.

The report suggests that Google will announce Android 4.5 and the Google Nexus 8 tablet at a separate event a month later. The unnamed source reportedly got this information from his superior.

As past rumours have suggested, the Google Nexus 8 will replace the smaller Nexus 7 tablet. With a glut of inexpensive tablets and phablets increasingly encroaching this space, Google has taken the decision to release its next Nexus tablet in the less crowded 8-inch market. With the Nexus 8 sharing an announcement with Android 4.5, it will presumably come preloaded with it and be the first device to sport this latest version.

The report provides no details about what could be included in Android 4.5 or what specifications the Google Nexus 8 tablet might have.

A previous report had suggested that the Google Nexus 8 might launch in late April with initial shipments pegged at two million units. It could also run an Intel processor.

It also seems odd that Google would not use one of its biggest events to unveil the next version of Android and new Nexus devices. But like competitors, it may have decided that dedicated events are more effective. In this case, it could also give it more time to complete the next version of Android should it be behind schedule for a Google I/O announcement.
