HTC M8 to launch as HTC One 2?

HTC is likely to unveil its latest flagship smartphone sometime this month, perhaps at or just before MWC 2014. The successor to the HTC One, currently codenamed HTC M8, has been the topic of a number of rumours including some that have suggested the name it will launch as. Among them are the names HTC One Two (or HTC One 2) and HTC One+. None other than New Caledonia’s Office of Posts and Telecommunications has now weighed into the debate with its take.

HTC M8 to launch as HTC One 2?

According to the New Caledonia’s Office of Posts and Telecommunications (OPT), the HTC M8 will launch as the HTC One 2. The site also reveals that a dual-SIM variant (perhaps the HTC M8x spotted a few days back?) will also be available.

The entries for both the HTC One 2 and HTC One 2 Dual reveal little about the device except to confirm that they will be compatible with New Caledonia’s 3G network. Unfortunately for us, in both cases, the entries confirm that technical specifications are not on file.

It’s highly unlikely that the OPT has an inside line at HTC. More likely is the scenario that someone has added placeholders for the upcoming HTC models (maybe they read EyeOnMobility?) in preparation for their upcoming announcement.

What do you think of HTC One 2 as the name for the HTC One’s successor? Better or worse than HTC One+? Or should HTC try for something better than either of these options? Let us know below.
