Photo of Samsung Galaxy S5 packaging confirms specifications?

Rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 packagingThe Samsung Galaxy S5, expected to be the Korean manufacturer’s next flagship smartphone, has been the topic of rumours for a while now. With at least two major variants reportedly planned, specifications have often contradicted each other. With about two weeks to go before Samsung’s next Unpacked event, details are still emerging. A photo of the Galaxy S5’s retail packaging has now turned up, apparently revealing the specifications of one of these variants and once again confusing matters a bit.

The image published by SamsungGalaxyS5.nl indicates that this particular variant will come with a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.4 KitKat, LTE Cat 4, a 5.25-inch QHD (2560×1440/560PPI) AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, GPS and GLONASS, a 20MP AF main camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, an integrated infrared blaster and a 3,000mAh battery.

Most details line up well with those of a premium variant spotted just a few days ago on an AnTuTu benchmark. The only surprises among these specifications are the 20MP rear camera and the 3,000mAh battery. Most rumours to date pointed to a 16MP camera and 3,200mAh battery instead.

With more than a few Galaxy S5 variants planned, Samsung may well have one with a different camera but that would certainly be an unusual move. With Samsung rumoured to be working on a 20MP smartphone camera module, it may well be that prototypes sported a lower-resolution camera.

All in all, the new image raises as many questions as it strives to answer. For now, a healthy dose of skepticism is suggested as this could just as well be a faked image.
