CES 2016: Samsung press conference set for January 5, 2016

Samsung CES 2016 invitationCES 2016 and its tidal wave of announcements and new products is less than a month away. Between now and then, we can expect a raft of rumours and company teasers. Samsung yesterday formally kicked things off by starting to send out invitations to its press conference for the event.

The aptly-named 2016 CES Samsung Press Conference will take place on January 5th between 1400 and 1445 local time. Given the length of the event and recent launch of its latest flagship devices (the Samsung Gear S2 and Note 5 phablet), it’s unlikely that we’ll see a new flagship smartwatch or smartphone at the event.

While Samsung has yet to give any hints as to what it plans on announcing, a few possibilities quickly spring to mind. While flagship devices are unlikely, we could see new mid-range smartphones. Samsung could also further build out its recent entry into virtual reality. Given how extensive Samsung’s portfolio is, it is equally plausible that wearables and mobile devices will take a back seat to other products (like televisions).

Running from January 6th to January 9th, CES 2016 is now less than a month away. Between now and then, rumours and teasers will give us a sense of what we can expect to see there.
