Misfit today unveiled a new line of wrist bands for its Misfit Shine fitness tracker. Developed in partnership with The Coca-Cola Company and will.i.am, the new Misfit Shine Field Band Strap are made in part from from recycled PET plastic bottles. Each strap uses an average of one recycled 20oz PET bottle.

The Misfit Shine itself is a disc-shaped fitness tracker measuring only 27.5 millimeters in diameter and weighing 9.4 grams. Unlike many other trackers, it can be worn with different accessories, making it more convenient than other fitness trackers that must be worn on  the wrist. It includes a 3-axis accelerometer and can measure steps taken, calories burned, distance traveled as well as sleep quality and duration.

The Ekocycle partnership between will.i.am and Coca-Cola is focused on recycling various materials such as the bottles and cans used by the beverage company into new products:

The EKOCYCLE™ brand initiative supports recycling by helping consumers recognize that items they consider waste today may be a part of a lifestyle product they can use tomorrow. With a dedication to supporting a more sustainable environment, the EKOCYCLE™ brand initiative will identify products, such as assorted plastic bottles and aluminum cans, that can be repurposed into recycled content for fashionable and valuable lifestyle products. It will also encourage demand and use of recycled materials, and reinforce the importance of recycling finished products.

Misfit is offering the Ekocycle Misfit Shine Field Band Strap in Grey or Red for US$49.99 (about CA$60). A pack of three straps also includes a tricolor one for US$99.99 (about CA$120). For those that don’t have a Misfit yet, a black Misfit Shine set consisting of a strap and Misfit Shine is also offered for US$149.99 (about CA$180).

Misfit already offers a range of bands and necklace accessories for the Misfit Shine.
