FCC confirms Google Nexus 5 (LG D820) at last?

Start the FCC rumour mill once more. A new FCC filing may have inadvertently revealed the Google Nexus 5. The documents are for the LG-VS980 which appears to be an LG G2 variant for Verizon. The user manual attached effectively confirms this. Where things get interesting is in the external photos document. The device there does not look like the LG G2. Instead it shares far more with the mysterious Nexus device spotted in the KitKat statue unveiling video and is clearly identified as the LG D820 which also turned up at the FCC recently.

The images reveal a device that is very similar to the Google Nexus 4 but with some notable differences as well. The camera has a much larger lens and the glass back appears to have made way for a plastic or polycarbonate one. At the top on the back is a dark square that could be a fingerprint reader. The side shots are quite blurry but one clearly shows the volume rocker where you would expect it to be. Internal shots confirm the 2,300mAh battery.

You can also (barely) see the microUSB and headphone ports in other pictures. Whereas on the LG G2 they are both on the bottom, here they don’t appear to be next to each other.

Again, the FCC documents make no mention of the Google Nexus 5 but the evidence is clearly now stacked in favour of not only LG being the Nexus 5’s manufacturer but also that the LG D820 is indeed that next Nexus smartphone.
